We live in a world where sedentary lifestyles are often the norm, which can lead to lots of aches and pains caused by stability and mobility issues. Over the years I have adopted a coaching philosophy that looks to counter this, by going back to basics to reteach and correct our natural movement patterns.
As industry leader Gray Cook says, “Don’t add strength to dysfunction” – so I like to focus on mastering the basics. Once this solid foundation is laid, far greater strength and fitness gains can be achieved in the long run.
I encourage people to have big goals with their health and fitness. Part of a coach’s job is to help clients break these down into smaller, realistic targets that can be systematically achieved.
Don’t get sidetracked by focusing solely on what you look like, though! The priority should be feeling and functioning better, because once a health and fitness lifestyle becomes a habit, the rest will take care itself.
